ABOUT JULIE

JULIE MASTIN

Julie Mastin, MA, LPC

Life can be stressful and may feel overwhelming at times. It’s always changing. I am devoted to helping you get more of what you want in life. I enjoy working with individuals and couples, while providing compassion and support.

One of my core values is the importance of relationships and how much they matter to a person to feel stable. I divorced after a marriage of more than two decades. Later, I remarried and have been in a stable marriage for almost that long. We have a blended family of adult children (I have 3 and he has 2) and grandchildren.

When I divorced, I wanted to know what was considered a healthy relationship both for couples and with individual relationships. I wanted to learn what healthy couples did to strengthen their relationship and what unhealthy couples did to cause harm. I was interested in learning how people repair a broken relationship. That started my curiosity about what did and did not work in a relationships.

Relationship Specialization:

I have completed Gottman Method Couples Therapy Training (levels one and two),Trust-Based Relational Intervention, Prepare Enrich Pre-Marital facilitation and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (Dr. Susan Johnson; externship). The first 7 years of my mental health career, I worked at The Parenting Center working with families, individuals, children and couples. I provided counseling for battered women, sexual abuse, trauma, and divorce at Safe Haven and the YWCA. I have been in private practice since 2009. Now, I share these skills and knowledge in my counseling practice working with couples and individuals.

Education

I am Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Fort Worth, Texas. My undergraduate degree was completed at Baylor University, and my graduate studies were completed at the University of North Texas in 2001. I worked as a vocational counselor before becoming a mental health therapist. I use my vocational training to help individuals with career adjustment and achieving their personal and career goals. I am also trained in utilizing horses in the counseling session. The way people interact with horses is very similar to how people develop relationships with others.

I became a LPC in 2007 and started my private practice in mental health counseling in 2009. I actively participate in continuing education to update and practice my skills. While working at the YWCA, I received the 2008 Humanitarian Award honor for direct counseling services. I have taught numerous adult education classes in churches and organizations. I am a member of the Texas Counseling Association, Fort Worth Area Psychological Association, the Texas Mental Health Counselors Association, and Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. I participate with the Gottman Connect Relationship Builder Program.

I will work with you to provide individualized services appropriate for your needs. I would be happy to discuss my professional experience or credentials with you at your request.
